Client and Therapist

Rights and Responsibilities

At Living Joy, we take health and wellbeing seriously. Our work is of a therapeutic nature and we have policies in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all therapists and patrons. Before your visit, please review the rights and responsibilities of each therapist and client, and reach out with any questions or requests for clarification.

Client Rights and Responsibilities

  • We are committed to your health, safety, and comfort, and are happy to accommodate in any way we are able. If you are uncomfortable for any reason, let your therapist know. They may make accommodations or stop the session entirely, to ensure you feel comfortable and safe. Adjustments can be made to a variety of aspects of your treatment including pressure, temperature, music volume and scent.

  • This includes use of preferred pronouns, modest draping during treatment (covering with sheets and blankets), and privacy while dressing and undressing.

You reserve the right to keep as much clothing on as you prefer during your treatment. Your therapist can work through clothing to effectively treat an area. In the case clothing has been removed, the therapist will undrape only the area of the body to be worked on, while the rest of your body remains covered with sheets and a blanket.

  • If you are unclear on something at any point before, during or after your visit, please ask!

  • If you prefer to limit communication to what is necessary for safe and effective treatment (e.g. checking in on pressure levels) we are happy to oblige.

  • Often, the area of the body that is experiencing discomfort is not the area that is causing it, and your therapist can explain what they will be working on and why. However, if there is an area of your body you prefer not to be touched for any reason, please let your therapist know, so they can avoid it.

  • All clients, minor or otherwise, have the right to request someone trusted accompany them in the room during their treatment, so far as it does not prohibit the therapist from safely and effectively providing service. Per Illinois law, the therapist has the responsibility to obtain written consent of a parent or legal guardian before providing services to a minor under the age of 18.

  • This includes being non-discriminatory, dedicated to professional excellence, and dedicated to their own wellbeing, so they may offer the best possible service.

  • Your client records and transactions are confidential, unless the release of records is authorized in writing by you, or otherwise provided for by law.

  • Clients are responsible for arriving at the designated time to receive the full treatment time that has been reserved exclusively for them. Sessions may be cut short in the event a client arrives late or delays the start of service.

  • Clients are responsible for making the therapist aware of any health issues or concerns, including any instructions you are under from a doctor, physical therapist or other health care professional.

  • To keep all clients and therapists well, if you are ill or have recently been exposed to a contagious illness, please cancel or reschedule your service. (Note: Our 24 hr cancellation policy is waived in case of illness.)

  • Any reference to matters of a sexual nature is grounds for ending the treatment and if necessary barring any future treatments and/or contacting law enforcement. If the therapist requests the client cease conversation around any topic not related to the treatment and the client refuses, the therapist reserves the right to end the session.

Therapist Rights and Responsibilities

  • Living Joy has a zero-tolerance policy for actions or words of a sexual nature. If the therapist believes a client has done or is requesting something that is illegal, unethical, or unsafe, they reserve the right to terminate the session. In cases where a law has been violated, including solicitation of prostitution, local law enforcement will be notified, and if applicable a police report will be filed.

“Happy Ending” jokes are not tolerated at Living Joy. Any reference to this is grounds for immediate termination of the session

  • If a client is running late to begin treatment, the therapist is not responsible for extending the session to accommodate for tardiness or other delays.
